1.4.1.3.1 Sheridans

Sheridans is the name of a new liguer from Guinness
. It consists of two liguers one black and bitter and one white and sweet
. When poured, the white one lies on the black one and it looks like a small Guinness.
It comes in a bottle with two parts
one for the black liquer and one for the white

It was a good idea
people liked the drink
but it did not catch on
Why?

One reason was that it took a barmaid a long time to serve
as she had first to put in the black liquer and then
with a different nozzle put in the white liquer
There were different amounts
the black volume is about four times the white
and the speeds that thet flowed were different

Guiness had working for them a mathematician called Mr Sheridan
. He had to come up with a solution
He designed a new nozzle that automatically supplied the
correct amount of each liquid in the correct sequence.
The serving time was dramatically shortened
and the sales improved.

The design of such a nozzle
with different densities, different flows, different amounts and a certain order of pouring
involved complicated mathematics
