Java Simulation

How to use this applet

The Lorenz simulator is shown here. This is the applet that will be used to study the Lorenz equations. The interface that is shown here allows the settings to be changed. There is another that does not allow for this.

The settings for the Lorenz applet are as follows:

Initial x position : The initial x position of the trajectory
Initial y position : The initial y position of the trajectory
Initial z position : The initial z position of the trajectory
sigma : also known as the Prandtl number
r : also known as the Rayleigh constant
    b : has no name

What is this simulating

The Lorenz system is an attractor in three dimensions. Shown here are two of those dimensions. This plot is often called the butterfly of the Lorenz system. It is a plot of x vs z. The y dimension is lost in this applet, but don't worry, I'm working on that. As well, many still gifs will be given of the attractor from all angles.
